Working in Finland
Payment is based on an hourly wage. The monthly net salary, excluding shift allowances, depends on the type of work and the employee’s professional skills. The hourly wage is agreed upon jointly in writing when the employment contract is signed. Taxes are deducted from the salary.
For example: In the case of a gross annual salary of €40,000, you can expect approximately 19% tax, resulting in an annual net salary of around €32,000. Salaries are always paid by bank transfer.
The official working week in Finland is 37.5 hours. Because of this, in the metal industry, a 6.3% supplement is paid per working hour for a 40-hour working week, which amounts to an average of €100–150 per month.
Afternoon shift allowance: €1.39/hour.
Possible night shift allowance: €2.31/hour.
After each month worked, the employee is entitled to 2 days of paid vacation.
Overtime/time off in lieu is generally possible.

Travelling to Finland
When travelling to Finland, Karma HR arranges and covers the cost of the flight ticket and accommodation. From preparing for the journey to handling official administrative matters (EU registration, registering your address, applying for a personal identity code, tax card, and social security card), the company’s staff and interpreters provide assistance with everything. A passport or a new-type national ID card is required for the journey.
Karma Group provides each employee with a private room. Our company makes every effort, whenever possible, to arrange accommodation so that employees can live together with their friends or acquaintances. Karma Group arranges the rental of the apartment before the applicant travels to Finland, with the aim of ensuring that it is located as close as possible to the workplace.
The apartments are furnished with the basic necessities (cooking, laundry, sleeping, and dining facilities are provided). The monthly accommodation cost is approximately €250-€350 per person per month (rent plus utilities), which is deducted from the employee’s salary.
Before travelling to Finland, it is recommended to obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). A Finnish social security card can be applied for after the first salary payment. Karma Group provides assistance with this process.
Free public healthcare services in Finland can be accessed after receiving the Finnish social security card. From the date the employment contract is signed, the employee is covered by comprehensive occupational accident insurance. Accidents that occur when arriving at or leaving the workplace are also considered workplace accidents. Any workplace accident must be reported immediately to the supervisor and the interpreter.
KarmaHR also assists employees’ families (spouses and children) with settling into life in Finland. In addition to registration procedures and interpreting services, the company provides assistance with enrolling children in kindergarten and school and arranges Finnish language courses and employment-preparation support for spouses.
